Empowering and Healing Done a Better Way

In a world where millions are trapped in modern-day slavery, specifically sex trafficking, finding sustainable ways to make a difference in the lives of these people is super important.  Better Way Designs has a mission and business approach that is both effective and sustainable, empowering women and their communities.

Our goal is to bridge the gap between us and our artisan sisters, creating an interwoven relationship of mutual respect and growth. This approach allows our global partners to work, grow, and bring more women to freedom. Our business model is a beacon of hope, offering dignified employment opportunities that counteract the forces of trafficking and exploitation.

Artisans at the Heart of Our Mission

Artisans are the life blood of Better Way Designs. They are from around the world and are the driving force behind our brand. They chose a new path, have learned new skills, overcame hard things, and bravely persisted when life was hard. They were willing to learn from their mistakes and keep moving forward. Because of the Artisans we have these beautiful handmade items on the market, and they have a sense of pride, value, and respect.

Freedom Fighters Partnering with Artisans

Yet, many of our Artisans live in countries that do not have a market for their handiwork. That is where Freedom Fighters come in, working shoulder to shoulder with our Artisans.  We are partners!

I am not only a business owner; I’m a part of a life-giving movement. Every minute I invest in building my business translates into an investment in freedom worldwide. It has offered so much more than financial rewards; it offers a sense of purpose, community, and the satisfaction of doing work that genuinely matters. As a Freedom Fighter I can support jobs for the Artisans, creating a ripple effect of empowerment and change.

The Power of Conscious Consumerism

However, it doesn’t end there!  This is where YOU come in. You play a vital role in this journey. By choosing to SHOP at Better Way Designs you become a conscious consumer. You’re not just buying a product; you’re supporting a dignified way of doing business that connects you to the Artisans. You become a part of their story. Every purchase is a step towards filling the world with opportunities for women, offering them hope and a way to freedom. The “Impact Hours” indicated next to each product show the working hours created by each purchase, making our customers a vital part of this dignity story.

Cara’s Story

A few nights ago, I was reminded of Cara’s story. Cara went to Bolivia 16 years ago to help victims of sex trafficking. She went into a brothel and one of the women said to her, “Are you here to give us jobs? If I had a job, I would leave this place tonight.”

Faced with the stark reality of a woman who saw employment as her only escape, Cara started a sewing business. This woman was one of Cara’s first hires. With this job she received many benefits, therapy, health insurance, and a retirement plan. She was able to feed her children and had the community she needed around her to heal and grow and eventually even mentoring other women. As of 2020 this artisan was able to retire with a pension plan!

Cara’s story is the story of only one of our 20 partners and one of our many Artisans. This story shows the profound impact of our mission. Each of us can become a part of an Artisan’s story instilling a sense of pride, value, and respect in the hearts and helping them to heal from trauma!
